Laura Day is a richly vibrant artist who draws from
a vast divergence of rock, blues and jazz
influences, shaping her uniquely feminine sound,
navigating a sea of emotions with lyrical grace and
playful melodic sophistication. Vulnerable, smart,
sexy.
Hailing from central
Illinois, Laura’s musical career has spanned the
Midwest, performing the bar-band and coffee shop
circuits across Illinois, Minnesota
and Wisconsin.
She spent a decade in the Minneapolis/St.Paul area,
where she performed, recorded, and also organized
music festivals for charitable fundraising. In 2003,
she relocated to Madison, Wisconsin. She has fast
become an
integral part of the Madison musical
community,
as both a performer and a contributor to
local grass roots organizations dedicated to the
promotion
and support of local area artists.
Laura wrote, produced
and recorded her debut CD, “It’s You”, at
SMART
Studio in Madison, released in June, 2005. Her newly
launched publishing company, Stratess Publishing,
Inc., a sister company to her computer consulting
company, Stratess, Inc., is also engaged in the
acquisition of new artists catalogs, and providing
music business related services and products,
including the design and development of a software
application for music publishing management.
Laura is currently
working on her next release, due out in June, 2007,
also being recorded at SMART Studio. This next
project will be heavier in the blues genre.
The EP release and its
title track "It's You", were nominated for Best Song
and Best Artist, Jazz, 2005, by the Madison Area
Music Awards.
The EP was also
nominated for Best Project of the Year, by
kweevak.com, 2005.
The track "Black Crow
(In The Snow)" was a winner in the Midwest
Songwriting Contest, Folk/Alternative, 2005.
The tracks
"David's Eyes", "It Don't Take Much (I'm Gettin'
Antsy)" and "Jamaica By The Sea" made it into the
Top 10 List on Broadjam.com, 2006.
